Review: Weise Outlast Frontier

by MotoGusto Editor

Wet, dry, hot, cold! We find out what the new Weise Outlast Frontier Laminate Jacket and Trousers can handle.

I have had a fair amount of riding kit over the years, from budget to downright expensive, but I’ve never had a reasonably-priced piece of laminate motorcycle clothing. That’s where the new for 2020 Weise Outlast Frontier Laminate jacket and trousers hopefully come in.

It is important to say from the start, this has not been an easy item to review. I had a couple of issues with the first jacket I received; it had a small leak and a broken zip. However, WeiseMotorcycleClothing has a two-year no-quibble guarantee, meaning if it’s not fit for purpose, they will exchange it. And that is what they did with no sparing of any horses either. Within two days, I had my replacement jacket!

How well does it work?

Well, it outperformed the likes of their Onyx Evo and Dakar adventure jackets. It has kept me warm through the depths of winter and kept me cool now hotter weather has arrived. This laminate kit will keep out any water you encounter. That doesn’t mean you can use it for wading through rivers of course, but it does mean that being out on seriously wet roads, and in terrible conditions, becomes less of an issue. Quite simply, you know it’ll take it.

The 600 Denier polyester outer construction, with laminated waterproof lining, performs flawlessly and, combined with the removable Outlast temperature regulating, 140-gram quilted thermal liner, you are kept comfortable in all conditions.

The jacket is equipped with two velcro/popper pockets on the front, and a map pocket on the back of the jacket with a further three internal pockets, as well as two zip closure pockets on the trousers. There is plenty of storage to ensure the essentials are protected.

I had some reservations about how well it would perform in warmer conditions. However, with its breathable design and torso, shoulder, arm and rear waterproof zipped vents, the air circulation achieved is phenomenal. Add to that the vents situated on the cuffs via a two-way waterproof zip closure and you’ve got a recipe for great results. Initially, I did find the zips a little stiff, and they took a while to ease up on the concealed trousers pockets and more so on the cuff zip closures. However, this was cured with a little graphite powder. Now they work perfectly.

The adjustment poppers on the arm really help with billowing and very effective alongside the velcro waist adjustment strap. The trousers are equipped with external lower leg expander zips with storm panels for ease of entry and also feature a velcro waist adjuster strap.

Both the jacket and trousers come with highly reflective detailing to aid visibility, and while playing around with my camera, I found they lit up like a Christmas tree. To ensure full weather protection both can be zipped together.

The Weise Outlast Frontier Laminate jacket and trousers score a four out of five; the reduced score is only down to the stiffness of the zips.

Other than that, at £269.99 for the jacket, and £239.99 for the trousers, this is a very reasonably-priced piece of kit that performs to the extreme when you need it too.

The jacket is also available in women’s cut and sizing.

Well done to everyone at Weise Motorcycle Clothing.

You can purchase both the jacket and trousers, among a lot of other goodies from TheKeyCollection.
